Pithoragarh, March 29
The Dharchula Nagar Palika Parishad today launched a massive campaign to clean the town, Kailash Mansarovar base camp, of polythene bags and fined those who were found violating the High Court norms.
“In order to clean the route before the yatra begins in June, we have decided to clean all Kailash Mansarovar Yatra route. We will clean the camps at Yatra, Sirkha Gala, Bundi and Gunji en route to Kailash Mansarovar after we clean the base camp town of Dharchula,” said Srikant, Executive Officer of the Dharchula Nagar Palika Parishad.
According to the Executive Officer, in the raids against traders, over 19 traders had been fined Rs 7,500 in last two days.
“The traders have started cooperating with civic body officials in removing the polythene from the town as they have been convinced that being the base camp of the international pilgrimage to Kailash and Mansarovar, the town possesses a significant position in the state,” said Srikant, the Executive Officer.
