Jammu, April 12
Erstwhile royal families of Jammu and Kashmir and Patiala have come closer with Dr Karan Singh’s granddaughter, Mriganka Singh, getting engaged with Nirvan Singh, the grandson of Captain Amarinder Singh.
The engagement ceremony took place at a private function at Dr Karan Singh’s New Delhi residence. Both the families have known each other closely for four generations since pre-independence.
“This is not just a coming together of royal families but a union of the country’s top political personalities and families,” said a family friend.
Dr Karan Singh, son of the last ruler of Jammu & Kashmir’s late Maharaja Hari Singh is a senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament. Captain Amarinder Singh is the former Chief Minister of Punjab and scion of erstwhile Patiala state.
Nirvan is the younger son of Captain Amarinder’s daughter Jai Inder Kaur and Sardar Gurpal Singh. Mriganka is the daughter of Vikramaditya Singh and Chitrangada Raje.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh were present at the ceremony, among other prominent royalty, politicians and industrialists. — TNS
