Khamano, November 10
The newly built administrative complex in Khamano subdivision of Fatehgarh Sahib district is waiting for a VVIP for its inauguration even as a year has passed after its completion.
The complex, housing the office of Sub-Divisional Magistrate and other revenue departments, has been constructed on a 7 acre plot. Earlier, the estimated cost of the project was Rs 6 crore, which later escalated to Rs 9.49 crore.
The foundation stone of the project was laid by then Revenue Minister in the Congress government Jasjit Singh Randhawa on December 25, 2006. Officials of the local subdivision have been performing their duties for the past 16 years from non-government offices with the hope of getting an administrative complex. However, their wait is yet to bear any fruit. Khamano, along with new district Fatehgarh Sahib, was made a subdivision in 1992 by former Congress Chief Minister Beant Singh.
Residents of the town claimed that the government was “deliberately delaying” the shifting of offices in the administrative complex as the Chief Minister or the Deputy Chief Minister were not available for inauguration of the building.
Deputy Commissioner Kamaldeep Singh Sangha said he would soon take up the issue with the concerned department so that all offices in the Khamanon block could start functioning there as soon as possible.
Currently, the offices of Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Suvidha Kendra, Tehsildar, Treasury, Assistant Food and Supply Control, Sub-Registrar Cooperative Societies etc are functioning from the market committee building and the Deputy Superintendent of Police Office is being operated from the canal rest house building. The office of the CDPO has been running from different private buildings in the past.
The administrative complex has been set up to ensure that various departments come under a single roof for better coordination and convenience to public.
