The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) removed the damaged khanda from Panj Piara Park here today. The 81-feet-high khanda had bent due to high-speed winds yesterday.

A team of experts accompanied by SGPC additional secretary Daljeet Singh Bedi reached the park and removed the khanda for repair. Bedi told the media that after repair, it would be installed at the same place soon. It took a fabricator in Moga three months to prepare the three-tonne khanda at a cost of Rs 22 lakh

At the time of installation, it was claimed that the khanda has been built with an aerodynamic design to stand strong winds.
