Khanna, May 19
Members of Asia’s biggest grain market arhtiya association staged a dharna in front of the food supply office in Khanna today demanding pending dues of wheat crop from the state government.
A number of labourers of the Khanna Grain Market also participated in the dhrana as they were yet to get dues of their labour charges.
President of the Arhtiya Association Sukhwinder Singh said commission agents, farmers and labourers were facing the heat of ongoing tussle between the state and the Central governments.
He said on the one hand the state government was claiming to be working for the welfare of farmers and traders, but on the other hand it was harassing them by taking anti-farmers and anti-trader decisions. He along with Kamaljit Singh Kamma and Harbans Singh Roasha said the payment of all state purchase agencies after April 22 that was in crores was pending towards the state government and they warned that they would be forced to struggle under the banner of Punjab Arhtiya Association at the state level if their pending dues were not released immediately. —OC
