Residents of Jodi and Khatta Paani villages, three km from here, are spending sleepless nights for the past one month. The villagers said daily activities had been adversely affected due to non-availability of electricity in the two villages.
They added that students were unable to study during night hours while women were finding it difficult to attend their livestock in the dark. The Electricity Department has been apprised of the problem several times, but no action has been taken so far.
Dayal Singh Raunchela, Sardar Singh, Surjan Singh and other local residents said a transformer was rendered useless a month ago resulting in power cut in the two villages.
They said most of the villagers come to Mussoorie for work and go back late in the evening but with no electricity, they were finding it difficult to difficult to commute during the night hours.
Rama Devi said wild animals were damaging crops during night hours without any fear of being caught.
The residents have threatened to launch a massive agitation if the electricity department failed to restore power supply at the earliest.
The region falls under the Tehri district and the Chamba electricity division manages the electricity of the region.
Chamba SDO Shakti Prasad Shah said the delay in replacing the transformer was due to incessant rain in the region. There is no motor road to the two villages and the machine has to be taken on foot. He assured of replacing the transformer as soon as the weather clears.
