Gone are the days when kitty parties were regarded as long munching sessions which included deep fried samosas and panner pakoras on the platter. With city women growing calorie conscious, the kitty party menu has also taken a whirl and now instead of deep-fried snacks, the menu includes salads, subways and barbeque snacks.

“Nobody today wants to eat food which later tends to show on the waist. Women in the city, who regularly hit the gym and take part in yoga sessions, obviously do not want to eat unhealthy food. We have named our kitty menu “soups and salads”. Since our kitty party is in the evenings so instead of gorging on samosas or other deep-fried stuff, we confine it to soups and salads. In summer, one can opt for refreshing drinks such as lemonade and the likes but it’s a big no for anything laden with calories. We are so conscious about our health the year round and have made it our lifestyle. Salads are scrumptious which include boiled pasta and macroni and the like,” said Tanvi Aggarwal, a regular kitty member.

Meanwhile, there are some restaurants in the city which have made available healthy options. “We regularly have our kitty at one of the restaurants in the city that offers tasty food with a healthier twist. They have pastas, lasagne and burritos, but in a healthier way. The diet is without wheat and dairy products and healthier alternatives are used to reduce intake of calories and still maintaining the taste. In place of sugar, they are using stevia, maple syrup and fruit flour as an alternative for maida and wheat,” said another veteran kitty member.

“So eating out is always a fun at such places and we have made it a point to hold our kitty sessions at this place because we do not carry back the guilt of having eaten too much. We eat and enjoy at this place without adding calories,” beams Shruti, who is a regular at kitty parties.

Meanwhile, another kitty group has gone back to the basics of Indian food. “We have banned fast food completely from the menu of our kitty party. No more pizzas, pastas, noodles or manchurian. We serve only Indian food that is light on stomach and high on nutritional value,” said Rupinder Kaur, a city resident from Rajguru Nagar.

“Our menu includes idli-sambar, masala idli, dahi vada, dhokla and for dessert we have home cooked vermicelli or sweetened rice. Everything that our grandmothers used to cook for us is included in the menu of our kitty. I really look forward to attending my kitty party where I can meet my best pals and eat the tastiest food ever with a pinch of Indian tadka,” smiles Rupinder.

Big no to fried stuff
