The chilling cold conditions froze water pipelines in the higher reaches of Kumaon as the temperature dipped to -6°C here today.
Sources in the ITBP said jawans were compelled to expose the frozen pipelines to sunshine to get water from these.
“The temperature at one of the highest posts at Kalapani has gone down to -6°C while the day temperature is not increasing beyond 2°C despite clear sunlight,” an ITBP source at Mirthi in Pithoragarh district said.
Weather Department sources in Pithoragarh district headquarters said the chilling cold conditions would continue in the coming days as there was no possibility of change in the weather in the coming week.
“The towns of Pithoragarh and Champawat are shivering with cold these days as night temperature is going as down as 1.2°C,” said a Weather Department official.
