The project to upgrade Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Civil Hospital here has been hanging fire for the last several years.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had approved the construction of a new building for the district hospital on June 6 last year . It was announced to construct a 100-bed facility in the multi-storeyed building in the same campus on Kurukshetra University road. However, the project is yet to take off even after a year.

While the district hospital is primarily designed as a 100-beded hospital, the number of patients is increasing steadily. Hospital sources said on an average 300 patients were there in the hospital.

Executive Engineer (PWD) Jai Prakash Kamboj said the project details had been sent to the Director-General, Health Services, for approval.

He said it was proposed to construct four or five storeys with all modern features at an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore.

Even after getting speedy departmental approval, construction of the hospital building could not start before 2017. Once the Health Department clears the project, drawing work for the new building would take at least three months, said Kamboj. It would require at least 8-24 months for completion of the new building,” he added.
