With 42,790 users, Punjab is on the 13th spot in terms of the number of users, way behind neighbouring state Haryana that has more than 65,000 registered users. Maharashtra leads the tally with 1.2 lakh registered users of the digital locker facility.

Nationally, there has been a steady increase in the number of documents uploaded. The maximum number of documents, over 15 lakh, have been uploaded online this month so far.

Residents, who have created accounts on the Digital Locker, say it is a good initiative of the government.

“I had already kept scanned copies of certificates and some documents such as driving licence in my email, to just download in need. But now, I have created a Digital Locker account. Being a government website, it is safe. And in the future, when all government agencies start using Digital Locker for the verification of documents, it would really cut down on the hassle of sending documents for verification,” said Dinesh, a resident. “It is a great initiative of the government, but the government must make sure that it is adopted quickly by government agencies as well,” he said.

Harvinder, a student, said digital documents is the future. Nowadays, many international universities just upload certificates online. This is the future, and Digital Locker is the step in the right direction, but it should be implemented all across, to function it well,” he added.
