Leakage from gas geyser claims girl’s life

A 20-year-old girl died of suffocation caused reportedly by a gas geyser in the bathroom of her house at Dhakoli. She died at the Government Medical and College Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, today. 

The deceased was identified as Shruti Goyal, a resident of Adarsh Nagar, Dhakoli.

Giving details, police sources said on the morning of February 15, Shruti Goyal had gone to the bathroom and did not come out even after a long time. When her worried parents went to check as to what had happened, they found the bathroom bolted from the inside. When they broke open the door, they found her lying unconscious on the floor.

They immediately got her admitted to Alchemist Hospital, Panchkula. From there, she was referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, where she breathed her last today. The body was handed over to the family members. She was a student of Chitkara University, the sources added.

Sources said Shruti had turned on the geyser for taking a bath which consumed the oxygen in the bathroom leading to her death due to suffocation. There was no inlet for fresh air to come into the bathroom, the sources said. — OC
