Solan, April 8
Forest Department staff of Kunihar division today trapped a female leopard which had been on the prowl in the Danoghat area for the past few days.
Confirming the news, Divisional Forest Officer RS Jaswal said they had laid a trap last evening after a leopard had attacked a villager, Kamal Kumar, on Monday evening while he was returning to his village from Darlaghat at Shiv Nagar. Kamal saved his life by attacking the big cat with a hammer which injured the leopard as well as left him wounded.
Jaswal said some domesticated animals had also become a prey of the leopard and there was scare among the people. The leopard was successfully trapped around 5 am this morning. A team of wildlife experts, who came from Shimla, later took away the leopard and it would now be housed in the Tutikandi-based zoo in Shimla.
Jaswal said the captured leopard appeared to be mother of the leopard that had attacked Kamal as that leopard was smaller in size as compared to the captured big cat. He did not rule out the possibility of more leopards in the area. He said three tranquillizer shots had to be administered to the leopard to facilitate its transportation to Shimla.
