Ludhiana, February 6
As far as women in the industrial city are concerned, there seems to be no compromise with style and latest trends even if they have to spend hefty on maintaining their “elite lifestyle”.
A two-day exhibition at a leading hotel here concluded today and wives, daughters and daughter-in-laws of leading industrialists were seen making the most of it on the last day.
If the footfall and buying capacity of city women in the exhibition is any indication then “recession” was nowhere to be seen. The girls/women were seen spending lavishly to be in vogue.
An exhibitor displaying latest outfits, ranging up to Rs 1 lakh, said: “Ludhiana women believe in style. They have got an eye for designer outfits. They are ready to pay for it too. We believe there is no dearth for money here in the industrial hub. At the same time, the buying capacity of women is also great. If they have a taste for a particular thing, money is secondary to them,” he said.
A leading hosiery manufacturer’s wife said she always waited for such exhibitions which were different. “You visit each and every stall and see the difference between the products displayed here with those available in the market. The cuts, the work, everything is just fantabulous. I keep good money to spend on such exhibitions,” she said.
On being asked about the recession in the market and how purchasers thought twice before buying an expensive product, the woman replied: “For a woman of taste, there is never a recession. Moreover, recession is to be handled by our better-halves.”
