Several literary figures were given awards at a three-day-long third Annual International Conference of the Hindi Kashmiri Sangam that started here today.
Hindi Kashmiri Sangam secretary Beena Budki said well-known scholars of different Indian languages were felicitated and presented with cash awards on the first day of the conference. Budki said those who were given awards included president, Tamil Nadu Hindi Acadamy, Chennai, Dr Balshori Reddy, Oriya-Hindi scholar and HOD, Hindi, Cuttuck University, Odisha, Dr Smar Priya, Punjabi and Hindi scholar of Kanpur, Gani Dalbir Singh, eminent Kashmiri poet, Jnanpeeth and Padma Shree awardee Prof Rahman Rahi, writer and Punjabi-Hindi scholar Dr Maheep Singh, Premchand literature expert Prof Kamal Kishore Goyanka, chairman, Scientific and Terminology Commission, Prof Keshari Lal Verma, Prof Mohd Zaman Azurda of Sahitya Academy, eminent Kashmiri writer Aziz Hajini and Director General, Prasar Bharati, F Shaharyar.
The subject of the seminar was “The message of unity in the Indian culture” and it was presided over by Moti Kaul, ex- president, All India Kashmir Samaj.
In his welcome address, Prof Chaman Lal Sapru, president, Hindi Kashmiri Samaj, presented the aims and achievements of the organisation. He said the sangam was a bridge between Kashmir and Hindi language and literature.
He said the sangam had published 11 issues of the only Kashmiri-centric Hindi journal ‘Kashmir Sandesh’ so far.
