Resentment prevails among residents of a dozen villages residing between Bassa Chowk to Peer Bindli as the 5-km stretch of the Lunj-Nagrota Surian road is in bad shape. As a result, road accidents happen here frequently on this stretch.
Balbir Singh, a local resident of Spail village, said the 5-km stretch between Bassa Chowk to Spail and Peer Bindli villages on the Lunj-Nagrota Surian road was in a pitiable condition and was badly damaged with the PWD and other department authorities remaining a mute spectator to the trauma motorists were being subjected to.
Residents alleged the road was repaired only last year. As there was no quality control on works, it was badly damaged within one year.
The residents said road accidents, particularly of two-wheelers, took place almost daily because of the bad condition of the road. They alleged the road had developed potholes and depressions making driving a risky affair. They alleged they had approached the authorities concerned in this regard, but nothing had been done so far.
They demanded that the road must be repaired and recarpeted immediately, otherwise they would be forced to block the road.
SK Sood, Executive Engineer, PWD, Jawali, under whose jurisdiction the road falls, said tenders were being awarded.
