‘Maa Mujhe Jeene Do’— a cry of the girl child

A play, ‘Maa Mujhe Jeene Do’, was staged on the second day of the TFT- Sanskar Bharti Rashtriya Natya Smaroh at Randhawa Auditorium here today. Written and directed by Anjani Kumar Singh for the Sanskar Bharti, Mumbai, the play touched upon issues relating to one’s family, legacy, inheritance and female foeticide.
In the play, the protagonist, Babu ji ( Vivek Upadhaya ), wants a male heir while his son is blessed with daughters only. The whole family is under pressure to make sure that his dream is fulfilled but fails due to which he falls ill. As the play progresses, Babu ji accepts the girl child and stands against female foeticide. The drama was marked with a brilliant display of emotions and acting spells, accompanied by musical effects.
Touching upon women issues
An adult English comedy, ‘The Vagina Monologues’, based on theme of women empowerment, was staged at Tagore Theatre today.
The play was produced by Mahabanoo Modi Kotwal and Kaizaad Kotwal for which they interacted with over 200 women across the world on issues of rape, sexual assaults, crime and violence.
The rising number of such incidents inspires the artistes to add more monologues to the play staged over 1,000 times across the world. The main highlight of the play remained the dialogues by young debonair Dilnaaz Irani, Swati Das, Avantika Akreyker, Dolly Thakur and Mahabanoo.
