A major tragedy was averted by the Army at Wanabal Chowk on the Rawalpora, on the city outskirts.
An Army spokesman said sentries of the Army unit deployed in the area observed a fire breaking out in the shop of a local resident. “Today at 7 am, a fire broke out in a furniture shop at Wanabal Chowk on the road from Rawalpora to Old Air Field, Srinagar. The sentries of the Army unit deployed in the area observed the fire and sounded the alarm,” he said.
“By the time fire tenders reached, the Army column had already localised the fire and the situation was brought under control. The fire was finally extinguished through the joint efforts of the Army, fire fighters and the villagers,” he said. — TNS
