The Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha, Panchari Chowk Parade, today observed the 69th “Balidan Divas” of Major Som Nath Sharma.
A simple function was held by the Brahman Sabha under the leadership of Ved Parkash Sharma. A large number of persons from different walks of life participated it.
Speakers highlighted the great role of Major Som Nath Sharma, who laid down his life while defending the Srinagar airport from the Kabali attack with the collaboration of the Pakistani army on November 3, 1947.
Senior BJP leader and Tawi Andolan convener Ved Parkash, who was the chief guest at the function, paid rich tributes to Major Som Nath Sharma.
He said Major Som Nath Sharma belonged to a family of Army officers and his younger brother Gen VN Sharma had risen to the rank of Chief of Army Staff.
He said Major Som Nath Sharma was the first Army officer to receive the Paramvir Chakra, the highest gallantry award, for his sacrifice.
Appreciating the role of security forces and the Army, speakers paid homage to the martyrs who had recently sacrificed their life on the Line of Control and international border.
