Dehradun, November 13
Akshit Batra, founder of I Can. India, a Dehradun-based company, was awarded the ‘Make in India Award’ by the Bharat Nirman Foundation in New Delhi on Saturday.
Akshit won the award under the entrepreneurship category. The award was given by the Chief Imam of India, Dr Umer Ahmed Ilyasi, who is the United Nations Peace Ambassador.
The Bharat Nirman Foundation was established in 1980 and the Make in India Awards have been given in association with the Central Government’s Make in India Initiative in recognition of excellence and in contribution to nation building.
Some of the past recipients of this award are Javed Akhtar, Shahnaz Hussain, Kiran Bedi, Padma Vibhushan Dr Sonal Mansingh, Padma Vibhushan Birju Maharaj, Nafisa Ali and Usha Uthup among others.
“I am extremely humbled and grateful to the Make in India Initiative and the Bharat Nirman Foundation for this acknowledgement and honour. This certainly encourages young people like me to do more towards nation building,” says Akshit Batra. Batra is an entrepreneur who founded I Can. India, which is a movement to impart life skills and soft skills to high school and undergraduate students. —TNS
