Man jailed under POCSO Act

Shimla, December 30

Virender Singh, Special Judge, Shimla, has sentenced Nikka Ram of Netwa in Chopal of Shimla district to 12-year rigorous imprisonment under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. A fine of Rs 1 lakh has also been imposed on him.

The parents of the minor girl had lodged an FIR with the police at Nerwa on August 4, 2015, alleging that their daughter, a student of Class VII, having been raped by the accused on several occasions. A case had been registered under Sections 376 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.

The victim had been threatened by the accused not to reveal anything about the incident. Having been traumatised by the incident, the victim shared it with her parents. The court also granted a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the child to enable her rehabilitation. During the trial, 14 witnesses were examined.
