Mango Mela begins at Pinjore

The two-day Mango Mela, jointly organised by the tourism and horticulture departments of the state was opened today at Yadavindra Gardens, Pinjore. Ram Bilas Sharma, Tourism Minister, Haryana, inaugurated the mela by lighting the traditional lamp.

While addressing on the occasion, Ram Bilas Sharma announced that sincere efforts were being made to improve the tourism infrastructure in the state that was endowed with varied landscape from the Badkhal lake to Tikkar Taal, Morni Hills.

He also added that the proximity of Haryana to Delhi made it compulsory to develop the tourism industry in the state.

Earlier, Sharma visited several stalls. The mela received a encouraging response as visitors were found checking new varieties of the fruit. The varieties that attracted the visitors were maharaja, anola, chit kabra, timura, khasmkhas, laila ki ungli etc. He also visited the yoga session being organised at the venue.

In the morning session, students from different schools of Pinjore and Panchkula participated in the solo dance competition that started at 10.00 am. The students performed on Bollywood, Punjabi and classical songs with flamboyance.

A mango quiz was also organised where students were asked about various varieties of mango. A total of four teams with two students each participated in the quiz.

Performances by artistes of the North Zone Culture Centre, Patiala, entralled the visitors. Gatka experts from Sanaur, Patiala, mesmerised the visitors with their moves.

Popular Punjabi singer Sarthi K was the star attraction as his performance left the audience spellbound.
