A war of words broke out between ward members and MC president Manmohan Singh Mall when a proposal of providing an NoC to the MDDA for the beautification and expansion of the Jhoola Ghar area came up for a discussion at a special board meeting held here today.
Most of the ward members were against Mall and alleged that the proposal was being cleared without taking them into confidence and informing the projects’ detail to them.
They alleged the MC president was trying to give prime assets of the town to other agencies in the name of beautification.
Ward members Jasvir Kaur, Vinod Sewmal, Ramesh Bhadari and Rami Devi said this would not be tolerated at any cost.
Jasvir Kaur alleged the MC had given many prime properties on lease without outlining their modalities, thus leading to a loss of revenue to the Municipal Council. She said the MC president must discuss all details before clearing any proposal in the board meeting. She alleged the “dictatorial” attitude of Mall was affecting development works in the town.
Ward members warned that if the MC president continued to work this way, they would launch an agitation against him.
On the other hand, Mall walked out of the board meeting without discussing the proposal.
Later, while talking to mediapersons, he alleged instead of supporting him on development projects, a section of ward members was creating bottlenecks due to vested political interests.
He said the beautification project would be done by the MDDA at Jhoola Ghar under which shops located at the site would be shifted to other location nearby.
He said the ward members were not interested in the development of the town.
