The Mayor of the Hounslow Borough in England, Ajmer Kaur Grewal, called upon elected representatives of Municipal Councils (MCs) and village panchayats of the region to act as bridge between the administration and the public in order to justify their constitutional and social duty.
Grewal also addressed office-bearers and activists of various organisations of the local town and surrounding areas during felicitation function in Dehlon, near here.
Nirmal Singh Chahal presided over the function while Pritam Singh Grewal, an NRI from Kilaraipur village and former Mayor of Hounslow, was the guest of honour on the occasion.
Evaluating obligations and dispensations of elected representatives in India and England Grewal said wide gap existed between both the situations. “Though governance through representatives elected by residents of a particular region has become more transparent and efficacious, there is an increased need of persistent surveillance and involvement of the electorate throughout the term of a particular council,” said Grewal.
She maintained that elected representatives, including councillors, panches and legislators, should act as advocates of their voters and architects of policies of the administration.
Office-bearers of various organisations led by Ravinder Puri, Dr Sunit Hind, Ranjit Singh Mangat, Avtar Singh Baba, Pawan Sharma, Sunny Joshi, Paramdeep Singh Dehlon and Paramjit Singh Ghawadi appreciated Labour Party Councillors and Grewal for bringing laurels to their native land.
