Faridabad, February 15
The Municipal Corporation’s decision to give 25 per cent rebate to property tax defaulters has miffed those who submitted the tax before the waiver was announced. Over Rs 100 crore is pending as property tax. The rebate has been offered till February 28.
Sunil Kumar of NIT rued that instead of punishing the defaulters, the authorities concerned offered them relief, adding honest tax payers should have been given respite.
Former MLA Yogesh Sharma said heavy rebate to defaulters was an injustice to all those who paid the tax on time.
The MC notification states that besides 25 percent rebate on the tax pending till 2010, the defaulters will be eligible for another one percent relief if they paid the amount in single payment. It may be recalled that the Municipal Corporation Faridabad (MCF) had sealed 87 properties of all kinds (residential, commercial, industrial) last month, which owed Rs 2.51 crore as property tax.
A sum of Rs 55.05 crore has already been recovered in the current financial year. Earlier, demonetisation led to 366 per cent jump in the recovery of such dues. An official said a total of Rs 24.24 crore was recovered between November 11 and December 15, 2016.
