Residents in the city are making a beeline for getting themselves enrolled in the MC swimming pool.

“Though more than 300 persons enrol with us every year, the response to the pool has been much greater this time, as the state-of-the-art filtration system was installed here last year,” said Suresh Kumar, supervisor at the MC swimming pool.

He said the pool now has crystal clear water, as the filtration system is on 24 hours, because of which more residents are evincing interest in enrolling for the pool.

The swimming pool was made in 1986 and since then, it had been a popular getaway during the summer season. It was neglected some years ago, but with the installation of filtration system last year and better tiles around, it has again become popular.

He said the minimum depth of the swimming pool is 5.5 ft, whereas the maximum depth is 18 ft.

Apart from residents, currently around 20 children, including 11 girls from different schools under the Sports Department, are training in the pool water. These swimmers train from 5 am to 6 am and 4 pm to 5 pm.

For men, the timings are 6.30 to 7.30 in the morning as well as in the evening. They can choose time slot as of now. For women and girls, the timings are 8 am to 9 am and 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm. Couples can also join from 8 pm to 9 pm.

Meanwhile, coach at the pool, Rajinder Boparai, said the enrolment is still on, but going by the overwhelming response of residents in seeking enrolment this time, they might have to say no to residents and stop the enrolment.
