The transfer of four doctors from Jind to the PGIMS, Rohtak, recently has multiplied the problems of district residents, who have been without doctors and other health facilities for many years. The sole working surgeon has been transferred to the PGI and there is no government gynaecologist left in the district.
As per information, the Health Department authorities directed officiating Jind Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Anil Birla to immediately shift four doctors to the PGI, Rohtak, to make a stopgap arrangement for showing the adequate number of doctors during the forthcoming inspection of the Medical Council of India there. The doctors include Dr Kuldeep Rana (anaesthetist), Dr Bhupinder Singh (general surgeon), Dr Satvir Singh (MD) and Dr Naresh Verma (Julana SMO). The CS had to buckle under pressure of seniors and relieved all four.
But after the transfer of Dr Bhupinder Singh, not a single government surgeon is available in the district to look after over 13 lakh residents, as another surgeon, Dr Birla, who has been given the charge of the officiating Jind CS, is already overburdened with the administrative work and has no time for surgeries.
“We don’t have the required number of doctors, but we are trying our best to treat the maximum number of patients. On the directions of the senior authorities, four doctors were transferred to the PGI recently,” said Dr Anil Birla, Jind CS.
