A free medical and heart check-up camp was organised by Dayanand Medical College and Hospital and its unit Hero DMC Heart Institute in association with Sidh Peeth Sansthan at Dandi Swami Mandir. A team of doctors comprising Dr Sandeep Puri, principal, DMCH; Dr GS Wander, chief cardiologist, HDHI; Dr Suman Puri; Dr Manikant Singla and Dr Rohit Tandon examined over 300 patients. Clinical investigation was conducted and medicines were also distributed free-of-cost to all patients.

Pensioners flay government

The Railways pensioners have deplored the discrimination being meted out by the government to those employees who retired before 2006. At the 17th annual general body meeting of the Northern Railway Pensioners Welfare Association, the members demanded that pay scales of pre-2006 retirees be enhanced on a par with those who had retired after 2006 on the lines of “one rank, one pension” being granted to the defence personnel. Chairman of the body Sher Singh, president Tarvinder Singh and general secretary BR Dhaman focused on anti-pensioner policies of the previous UPA and present NDA governments while criticising the poor healthcare facilities being provided to pensioners and their families.

Office-bearers elected

The elections of Taraksheel Society were held under the chairmanship of Balwinder Barnala. Office-bearers from Ludhiana, Sahnewal, Malerkotla, Khanna, Machhiwara, Jarg, Sudhar and Jagraon attended the election meeting. Jaswant Jeerakh was elected the head while Atma Singh was elected the financial head.

Blood donation

Volunteers from more than five organisations will donate blood during a camp to be held to help thalassaemia patients at Durga Mata Mandir on April 5. Also, a team of doctors will examine the patients at Durga Mata Hospital free-of-cost. — TNS
