At an age when children are struggling with the issues of peer pressure and parental restrictions, 13-year-old Parth Arora has already penned a book titled “The World’s Most Powerful Man”. He published his book with a Chennai-based publishing company, Notion Press. It is a suspense fiction novel that takes you into a new world of technology.
How did you get interested in writing?
I always got fascinated when I read the Harry Potter series. One day, in my summer vacations, I wanted to do something creative and productive. I started to write this book, and used up all my summer holidays in it. I started writing it in June and completed my final manuscript by October. My manuscript got deleted and it wasn’t possible to restore it. I wrote the entire book once again.
Your experience of the process of writing
It was an amazing experience. I learnt a lot during this time. Writing enhanced my creativity and also improved my vocabulary.
Is writing cathartic?
We can say that writing is a cathartic experience to some extent. It allows the writer to write down what he thinks about himself or others in form of the characters of the story.
Thirteen. It’s the age of stress and strife, it’s said. It’s also the age at which you try finding your identity.
How difficult (or easy) was it for you to write the book?
At the age of 13, it was a bit difficult for me to write this book and manage both my studies and writing this book. I utilised all my holidays for this, so that I wouldn’t miss on my studies.
Is there any space for books in this era of social media?
I do believe that somewhere or the other there is a place for books in this era of social media. Books are something that inspire others, something that the people can preserve. Pen is mightier than the sword. Words have a great power to influence and change. Change is an integral part for living. I agree that the social media has replaced books, but a huge chunk of our population still reads books that inspire them to do wonders.
Which (writing) genre fascinates you?
Writing thriller and scientific fiction is my interest. I also like writing books that give a social message.
Books that you have loved reading
Harry Potter is my favourite.
Authors who have inspired you
JK Rowling is the author who has inspired me. My parents, Dr Neeraj Arora and Dr Geeti Puri Arora, have inspired me to work hard at all times. Even though they had nothing much to do with my book, they supported me. One more thing that I would like to share with everyone is: Success is the product of sheer determination and intense hard work. If you have these qualities, no power on earth can prevent you from achieving your goal.
