Srinagar, November 2
The moderate Hurriyat Conference today revealed that its chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was open to making the Line of Control (LoC) irrelevant by demilitarisation on both sides, but not for making it permanent as offered Omar Abdullah during his recent speech in New York.
The Hurriyat in its statement today accused former CMOmar Abdullah of spreading “lies and malicious propaganda” against its chairman Mirwaiz Umar through his spokesperson Junaid Mattu.
The NC spokesman in a statement on Tuesday had alleged that Mirwaiz’s proximity to the establishment and intelligence apparatus in New Delhi was a well-known fact and the National Conference did not require sermons from someone who was willing to break bread with intelligence officers in five star hotels in New Delhi.
“Let us be clear on this, being the legatee of the blood-soaked people’s struggle for freedom, Mirwaiz since the age of 16 has consistently and with exemplary patience, courage and political conviction strived for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the people,” a Hurriyat spokesman said. — TNS
