The family members of Balwinder Singh Ruby, who lost his leg after being crushed under a speeding Jujhar Transport Company bus, have been finding it tough to arrange for his treatment.

The accident had occurred on the outskirts of the city on April 30, a day after the Moga molestation-death involving a teenaged girl who was pushed off a bus belonging to Orbit Aviations Company Ltd, owned mainly by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and his family.

Jujhar Transport Company is owned by Gurdip Singh and his family, who are seen close to Sukhbir Badal.

Balwinder’s family has alleged that neither the state government nor the owners of the transport company had extended them any financial help so far. His wife Harpreet Kaur said no government official had yet visited them to enquire the well being of her husband whose leg was surgically removed at a Ludhiana hospital. His condition was still stated to be critical. Harpreet said the family had no money left the treatment.

Ruby’s brother Paramjit Singh and father Mahinder Singh said they were passing through their worst time. “Despite the fact that Balwinder needs more hospitalisation, we will be forced to bring him home due to lack of funds,” they said.

They claimed two persons from Jujhar Transport Company had visited the hospital two days after the mishap and offered Rs20,000 for a compromise, which the family refused to accept.

The Aam Aadmi Party’s local activists visited Ruby’s house today and assured them of “all possible help in securing justice”.

Ruby was on his way from Moga to Baghapurana (his home) on the bus (PB10CH 3713) after his day’s work at a show store where he was employed on a monthly salary of Rs6,000 a month when the incident occurred.

Police investigations found out that the bus took a turn near the flyover at high speed due to which Ruby, standing near the door, fell off the bus, which ran over one of his legs. The investigations had confirmed that the bus driver, who was arrested on the spot, was allegedly heavily drunk.
