Mohali, March 20
Nine sectors and two villages falling within the limits of the Mohali Municipal Corporation have been exempted from paying property tax for three years.
The areas that have been exempted are Sectors 66 to 69 and 76 to 80 besides Sohana and Kumbra villages. These areas were brought under the civic body when the corporation limits were extended recently.
MC officials said the government had issued a notification in December last year according to which the new areas added to any civic body in the state had been exempted from paying property tax for three years. As per the notification, residents of the exempted areas would have to pay the tax in April 2017.
Many residents of these areas have been visiting the corporation office here to pay the tax, which has not been accepted by the officials concerned.
