Mohali, January 30
Mohali Municipal Corporation Commissioner Uma Shankar Gupta has put Joint Commissioner Nayan Bhullar on notice on the charges of alleged non-cooperation and insubordination.
Two back-to-back show-cause notices were served on the Joint Commissioner on Friday. The fault of Bhullar, a PCS officer, is said to be her failure to see her boss (Gupta), also a PCS officer, after the latter called her over the phone to his room to discuss some issue. Before the Joint Commissioner could follow the diktat, she received a show-cause notice, said sources.
The Joint Commissioner claimed that she could not follow the order of her boss immediately as Mohali Additional Deputy Commissioner Poonamdeep Kaur was sitting in her room and they were in the midst of a discussion on an important issue. The sources claimed that after receiving the notice, Bhullar left the office as she was not feeling well. She was served with another notice for her conduct.
When contacted, the Municipal Commissioner confirmed the development, stating that it was an internal issue of the department and termed it a routine affair. “I don’t want to comment on the issue,” said Gupta.
Evidently upset over the development, Bhullar alleged that she was being targeted for no reason. “I have informed the senior authorities about the matter. I do not want to make any further comment,” said Bhullar.
Mohali Mayor Kulwant Singh too expressed similar views, claiming that he was aware of the issue but was still to go through the notices. “I don’t think it is appropriate to comment on it till I read the notices. If needed, I will speak to the state government authorities,” said Kulwant Singh, while admitting that internal tussles in the corporation were not healthy for it.
It is pertinent to recall that around 10 days ago, the tussle between Gupta and Deputy Mayor Manjit Singh Sethi on certain issues had also come to the fore.
