The other day I came across a security guard outside one of the hotels who was donning a huge moustache that he had made to stand on his cheeks. He is the trademark security guard of the hotel and visitors often ask him the secret behind his moustache. “People often think I have put a wire inside the moustache to keep it standing, but that’s not true. It takes me at least 20 minutes to set my moustache in the morning,” he quips. But he refused to divulge the secret formula and said, “Moochh ka sawal hai, aise nahin bataungaa.”

Resorting to a foundation stone laying spree in the city last week, the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal has once again made a desperate attempt to take the city residents for a ride by making tall claims and false promises. He inaugurated a number of such projects that were already functional, especially where the state government had not spent even a single penny. Believing that the people had short memory, and they must have forgotten previous promises of metro rail, BRTS, international airport, down town project and industrial park, the junior Badal once again announced to set up an industrial park in an area of more than 300 acre without spelling out the mechanism by which the government will acquire this much area of land when the new Land Acquisition Act, which was already under fire from various quarters.

Recently, a two-day flower show was held at Punjab Agricultural University in which myriad of colours were displayed in the form of various flowers, which attracted one and all. Bright coloured flowers provided a soothing effect to the visitors. Moreover, it provided a perfect place to youngsters to click selfies! The young girls, a majority of students, were seen taking selfies surrounded by colourful nature. The trend of selfies is not just limited to beautiful surroundings. Even during an exhibition held at a hotel in city, young women were seen taking selfies on the premises. One of the friends when asked about the craze said, “I will put the picture on Instagram and my friends will come to know that I visited the exhibition.” Perfect way to make friends aware, isn’t it!
