A woman has saved her son’s life by donating kidney at Himalayan Hospital, Jolly Grant. Manoj Painuly’s both kidneys had stopped working when he was brought to the hospital.
Devki Devi, his mother, donated one of her kidneys to save his life. Both are fine after the successful kidney transplantation through laparoscopic surgery, the hospital said in a press release.
Manoj Painuly, a resident of Likhwar village, Pratap Nagar Block, Tehri Garhwal, was admitted to the hospital and was diagnosed with renal failure. His mother Devki (58) offered her kidney. Her kidney was transplanted to her son Manoj through minimal invasive laparoscopic method. After a successful surgery, both mother and son were healthy and discharged.
Dr PK Sachan, medical superintendent of the Himalayan Hospital, said, “The hospital is the first and only approved centre for kidney transplantation in the state. The transplantation has cost them around Rs 3 lakh.” Dr Shahbaj, nephrologist of the hospital, said the dialysis process on Manoj had been stopped and he can live a normal life like any other person.
Dr Rajeev Sarpal, Dr Ankur Mittal, Dr Shikhar Agrawal, Dr Gurjeet Khurana and Dr Veena Asthana, were members of the team that treated Painulyl.
Dr Vijay Dhasmana, vice-chancellor of Swami Rama Himalayan University wished and congratulated the team of doctors for achieving the feat.
