After much delay, the film featuring Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim is all set for a pan-India release on February 13, but with a slightly tweaked title. The film is now titled “MSG: The Messenger”.
Sources said though the movie would be released across the country, including in more than 100 cinema halls in Haryana, its release in Punjab was still uncertain.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court had declined to stay the release of MSG on the petition filed by a Mohali-based NGO which had sought a ban on the screening of the film in the state and Haryana, claiming it would pose a serious threat to the law and order situation in these two states.
In Punjab, the SAD-BJP government had banned the movie following an advisory from the Centre. In Haryana too, the opposition, Indian National Lok Dal, had sought a ban on its release.
Confirming the film’s release on February 13, the dera authorities said they had complied with the edits suggested by the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal and the movie was all set to hit the big screens this week.
