Angel Dust, a horse bred at Dashmesh Stud Farm, Sarainaga village in Muktsar district, today won one of the country’s biggest races - the Kingfisher Derby Bangalore 2015.
Notably, the Dashmesh Stud Farm is owned by the family of former Chief Minister Harcharan Singh Brar.
Elated over the victory of the horse bred in their stud farm, Tegbir Brar and Karanbir Brar, said, “A record crowd of over 20,000 spectators cheered for the winner, who is owned by Vijay Mallya.”
Brar brothers further claimed that it was only the second time that a horse bred in Punjab had won the premier racing event, which is held annually.
“In 1986, a horse named Chaitanya Chakram, bred in the state, had won the plumber event,” said Karanbir, who is the youngest son of Muktsar MLA Karan Kaur Brar, sarpanch of Sarainaga village. There are a large number of equestrian sport lovers in Muktsar and Faridkot districts. Even the ruling Badal family owns a number of horses and a stud farm opposite their residence at Badal village.
