Muslims in Haridwar opened a Kanwar camp for Lord Shiva devotees today, giving a message of communal harmony and brotherhood. Kanwariyas were provided refreshment and basic health care at the camp at the Kassaban Durga ghat in suburban Jwalapur.
District Magistrate Harbans Singh Chug inaugurated the camp and said the initiative of the Muslim community augurs well for society and the country as well as it gave the message of communal harmony, brotherhood and solidarity.
Chug said Hindus had organised various Eid-Milan and Roja Iftaars during the pious month of Mah-e-Ramzan and the people of Haridwar exhibited this Ganga-Jamuni culture perfectly.
Muslims and camp coordinators Rao Affaq Ali and Naeem Qureshi said they took inspiration from Chief Minister Harish Rawat, who had always been vocal about Hindu-Muslim brotherhood.
Social activists Hazi Irfan, Rafi Khan and Arshad Khwaja said Muslims in Jwalapur had been organising such camps during the Kanwar pilgrimage.
IPS officer Ram Chandra Raj Guru, ADM Jeevan Singh Nangiyal, Circle Officer JP Juyal, Agriculture Committee secretary Vijay Thapliyal, Jwalapur SHO Virendra Singh Rawat, SSI Kamal Mohan Bhandari, local residents Harun Ansari, Mursaleen, Tahsin Musrat Shaifi, Hafiz Mansur, Rao Nazbul, Roshan Khan, Nayab Qureshi, Rao Kasif, Dilshad Khan, Rizwan Qureshi, Saeen Mansuri, Rao Shahbaz, Dr Naresh Chaudhari attended the function.
Harbhaj Rai Sansthan, a social organisation, and Metro Hospital, SIDCUL, are lending help in organising the Kanwar camp. National Service Scheme volunteers from various schools are also involved in the initiative.
