Assistant Commissioner, Commercial Tax, Shashikant Dubey oversaw the enrolment drive.

Dubey said the GST was to ease the tax payment which was infested with multiple window system and was cumbersome, inviting corruption. With GST, the tax payment would become transparent and easy for both the tax collectors and payers. The monitoring of the system is online and a check would be kept at the Centre and state level thus reducing tax evasion to a certain extent.

The issues between state and the Centre regarding revenue sharing were being discussed and the final amount for tax percentage would be announced later, he said.

The Assistant Commissioner said he was hopeful that the GST would come into force by the month of July, as per the remarks made by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

He said connectivity had been a major issue while introducing GST but the same was being addressed with the installation of radio frequency services for online transaction at Commercial Tax Office in Mussoorie.

Dubey said the percentage of taxes would come down making it easy for the business houses to pay their taxes without any fear. All the preparations were at the final stage to shift to new taxation system, he added.

Commercial Tax advocate Mohan Petwal said the GST was a good step towards easy and transparent tax payment system and all the business houses should avail the opportunity by enrolling under it.
