Deputy Commissioner J Ganesan inaugurated the CBNAAT machine for GeneXpert MTB/RIF test, which is a real time polymerase chain reaction-based test for the detection of mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Dr SL Verma, civil surgeon-cum-state bacteriologist, said mycobacterium tuberculosis was responsible for TB.

Ganesan said four samples could be conducted in one time in this machine.

Such kinds of machines have been working at the PGIMS, Rohtak, and the GMC, Nalhar, in Mewat with good response. Seven more machines have been provided in Karnal, Kurukshetra, Hisar, Sonepat, Faridabad and Gurgaon, he said.

The facility of the test would be provided free of cost. The cost of the test in the private sector is Rs 3,000.
