A depiction of the traditional Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra at the 19th National Youth Festival held at Guwahati in Assam received wide appreciation from visitors yesterday.
Student volunteers of the National Service Scheme (NSS) from all 29 states of the country participated in the youth festival in which the Uttarakhand team comprising 12 members presented skits based on the folk Garhwali and Kumaoni culture.
The Uttarakhand team leader, Anjali Bharadwaj from Dev Sanskriti University, returned Haridwar today after participating in the festival. He said the Uttarakhand team presented a depiction of 280-km Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra that begins from Nauti in Karanprayag and concludes at Hom Kund in Chamoli district.
A skit based on the sanctity of the Ganga titled “Uttarakhand Ki Mati Ki Khusboo” was especially liked by chief guest Union Minister for Home Affairs Rajnath Singh, Olympic boxer Mary Kom and Indian international cricketer Virendra Sehwag. — TNS
