The Natrang today staged Hindi play ‘Uthal Puthal’, in its weekly theatre series at the Studio Theatre, Kachi Chawni here.
The play was based on a short story written by Anton Chekhov and directed by Neeraj Kant. The play revolved around a young girl, Malvika, who lived as a paying guest in the house of a woman called Maya.
She came home from college one day to find the house in a turmoil. When she walked into her room, she saw Maya rummaging through her things. Maya left in a hurry and another maid told Malvika that an expensive brooch was missing and Maya was searching and screening everyone to find that. Malvika got disturbed that the landlady was looking through her things assuming her a thief.
At dinner, Maya said she would not tolerate thieves in her house. Hearing this, Malvika decided to leave the place. While she was packing, Nikhil, Maya’s husband, came into her room and begged her to stay.
He then revealed that actually he had stolen the brooch as he was short of money and his dominating wife had taken all the possessions with her and turned him to be a beggar in his own house.
This disturbed Malvika even more and she decided to leave the home. Natrang’s artists who performed in the play included Rajan Thakyal, Sakshi Prakash, Juhi Singh, Kritika Singh Bhau and Mohammad Yaseen.
