Naturopathy is gaining popularity in the industrial city. Shilpa Makhija, a resident, said she did not know that diabetes and blood pressure could be regulated through naturopathy.
“My mother is diabetic and I will be taking her to a naturopath. Why should we have medicines when diseases can be treated in a natural way,” she added.
Dr Ravinder Vatsyayan, an ayurvedacharya, said more and more people were falling prey to lifestyle diseases. “Naturopathy is a preventive form of medicine rather than curative. It should be adopted a way of life,” he said.
“Naturopathy is based on the belief that accumulation of toxins in the body is the root cause of all diseases. The focus is on detoxifying the system. The body is made up of five elements and an imbalance in any of the elements is what causes illness. While allopathy treats the symptoms, naturopathy takes a holistic approach,” said another expert.
Even some doctors believe it is beneficial in certain cases, it definitely has a major role to play in chronic illnesses such as hypertension. We have seen that if a patient with high blood pressure does yoga or naturopathy, the amount of medicines he needs to take comes down,” said Dr Survesh.
