Need for reforms to improve education quality, says CM

Chief Minister Harish Rawat has stressed the need for implementing necessary reforms to improve the quality of education in the state.
The Chief Minister, while addressing a gathering at a district conference and educational symposium of the Uttarakhand Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh, said a sharp decline in the number of students in government schools was a wake-up call.
He said qualifications, salary and other facilities provided to government teachers were much better than private teachers, nevertheless government schools had a lower education level. “All teachers need to consider it and they should prepare a road map for qualitative education,” said the Chief Minister.
He said there was no lack of infrastructure in education. “The number of government schools, polytechnics, colleges and ITIs in our state is higher than other states but they are not bearing fruits. The government has made efforts to reform education. Teachers have been appointed in remote areas and block cadre has been constituted for teachers. As the Centre has reduced financial assistance to 50:50 from 90:10, we have to develop our own economical resources to maintain growth momentum,” he said.
The Chief Minister called upon teachers to come out of their comfort zone.
Education Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani said several attempts had been made to reform education in state. He expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for approving the regularisation of the services of 227 ad hoc teachers.
As many as 5,000 guest teachers had been appointed in government high schools and inter-colleges, he said.
Provincial president of the teachers’ union Rajesh Singh Negi, patron Prem Singh Sajwan, Sanjay Biljwan and Anil Kumar Nautiyal were present.
