As many as 70 adventure tourists were left mesmerised by the beautiful natural landscape of the Nelong Valley in Uttarkashi district as they reached Jadung village yesterday. The Nelong Valley shares the international border with China and has remained elusive to tourists so far due to security reasons.
Uttarkashi District Magistrate Deependra Chaudhary also reached Jadung and welcomed the tourists in the valley that is considered similar to what Ladakh Valley is for Himachal Pradesh on the international tourism map.
He said that the valley had all ingredients to attract tourists, especially adventure enthusiasts from across the country. “15 students of Government Inter College for Girls, Harsil, were delighted to catch the glimpse of the valley for the first time,” said the DM.
The government was trying to bring Nelong, Jadung, Tripani Naga and other areas around in the valley on the international tourism map and develop it as an adventure tour circuit so that employment is generated at the local level, he added.
Tilak Soni, head of Where Eagles Dare, an adventure operation group, along with other stakeholders is accompanying the tourists.
Bhatwadi SDM Vijaynath Shukla, District Tourism Officer KS Negi and others were present on the occasion.
