The appointment of Lieut Gen Bipin Rawat as Indian Army Chief and Anil Dhasmana as chief of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) has gladdened people in the Garhwal region. Both of them hail from Pauri Garhwal district.
Chief Minister Harish Rawat extended his wishes to Lieut Gen Bipin Rawat on his appointment as the next Chief of Army Staff (COAS), once incumbent COAS Gen DS Suhag reties on December 31. He called him up to congratulate him.
The Chief Minister said it was a matter of proud that an officer belonging to Uttarakhand would be holding the COAS post. Pauri Garhwal MP BC Khanduri also complimented Lt Gen Rawat for his achievement.
Lt Gen Rawat is a native of Pauri Garhwal district. His father Lt Gen LS Rawat retired as Deputy Army Chief. He is an alumnus of St Edward’s School, Shimla, and passed out of the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, where he was awarded the Sword of Honour in 1978. He was commissioned into 5th Battalion of 11 Gorkha Rifles on December 16, 1978. He has vast experience in warfare and counter insurgency operations. Anil Kumar Dhasmana, a native of Toli village in Pauri Garhwal district, has been appointed as RAW chief. He is a 1981 cadre IPS officer from Madhya Pradesh.
