New Doon Hospital to have 210 less beds

The number of beds at the new Government Doon Medical College and Hospital will be around 300, a drastic cut from a total of 510 beds at the Doon Hospital and Doon Women Hospital.

According to doctors, this will help in better management of the hospital and within the norms prescribed by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

“As of now, the Doon Male and Female hospitals have 510 beds but there is a lot of mismanagement. The issue had even come up when the team from the MCI had undertaken the inspection. We will be able to manage patients better with 300 beds,” said DR KK Tamta, Medical Superintendent, Government Doon Medical College.

According to the MCI norms, out of 300 beds, 90 would be dedicated to surgery, 30 orthopaedics, 10 ENT, 10 eye, 25 obstetrics, 15 gynaecology, 72 medicine, eight respiratory, eight skin, eight psychiatry and 24 to paediatrics.

However, contrary to the expectation, the Medical College will have a small Department of Dentistry.

Dr Pratayaksh Singh Panwar has been appointed in the department along with two doctors from the Doon Hospital. A total of 22 doctors from Doon Hospital will be joining the medical college for one year. While Dr Ashutosh Sayana, Head of the Department, Haldwani, will be serving in the Department of Surgery at the Doon Hospital.

Dr Mohit who was earlier serving as a super specialist (plastic surgeon) has joined the Doon Hospital as an associate professor.

At present, the construction is on to connect the new OPD block to the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Park. A foot bridge and over bridge will be constructed to connect it with Doon Hospital. While the operation theatre blocks are being constructed at the Women’s Hospital.
