Chandigarh: Dr HS Bali, ENT specialist and a 1980-batch PCMS-I doctor, has taken over as the new Director, Health and Family Welfare, of Punjab after the superannuation of Dr Bhag Mal on December 31, 2015. Dr Usha Bansal, who took over as Director, Family Welfare, Punjab, and Director (SI), Punjab, is also a 1980-batch PCMS doctor and a specialist in the stream of gynaecology. She has worked as Civil Surgeon in Patiala, SAS Nagar and Amritsar districts.

Bonded labour: Couple booked
Bhupinder Singh and his wife Raj Kaur, residents of Warian Purane village, 20 km from here, have been booked under Section 16 of the Bonded Labour System Abolition Act, 1976, by the Chohla Sahib police. The accused had taken over the house of their labourer, who has been working with them since the last seven years. Victim labourer Baljinder Singh was allegedly rendered homeless.

SSP office employee booked
Hazara Singh, an employee of the Arms License branch of the local SSP office has been booked for taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a Nagoke villager for releasing a weapon licence to him. The accused, after taking the money from Jagmohan Singh, gave him a wrong diary number. The matter was probed by DSP Jaswant Singh. The accused is absconding.

KL Chand Welfare Trust of the UK donated artificial legs to Phagwara youth Jai Paul, who lost both his legs in a mishap few months ago. NRI KL Chand has been awarded the Voice of Europe in the UK.
