Young entrepreneurs in the city want the next government to ensure a congenial environment for the startups and the growth of entrepreneurship.
Several entrepreneurs are of the view that other state governments were providing startups with better facilities.
“Others states, including Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, are doing a lot for the development of the startup environment, but no such thing is happening in Punjab,” says Bunny Chum from a startup regarding QR codes.
“Entrepreneurs are getting funding and support from outside the state, but not from here. So they are forced to move out of Punjab to set up offices, which in turn helps other states instead of Punjab,” he said.
Even though the founder of Ola Cab hailed from the city, but he had to set up operations in Gurgaon because a conducive environment was missing the state, he said.
Pushpinder Singh, from Incub8er, said, “The government must set up single-window clearances, and provide guidance and training. There are government schemes, but youths are not aware about them. The government can set up or support private incubators for giving a push to startups,” he says.
Nitin Jain, another entrepreneur, said, “Ludhiana is known for its entrepreneurial zeal. All youths need is the direction and support in the beginning. The government can play a vital role in the direction.”
“The state possesses a lot of talent which needs to be nurtured, guided and mentored. We can compete with the best of companies across India,” says Mayank Jain from Lets Go Social, another startup.
Milind Kwatra from a delivery startup said the government must create awareness about the startup ecosystems, subsidies and help create incubators in educational institutions.
