Zirakpur, April 30
Three days after the owner of Jain Mobile Centre was shot dead on the night of April 27, the city police have failed to make a breakthrough in the case. The hopes of getting some leads from the CCTV footage have been dashed as the images are blurred.
According to an eyewitness, three bike-borne assailants had fled the crime scene after opening fire on 35-year-old Ajay Jain, a resident of Modern Enclave, Zirakpur.
The CCTV footage, recovered by the police immediately after the murder on Thursday, has not yielded any concrete clues about the assailants, who gunned down Jain at Baltana while he was on his way back home after closing his shop.It is learnt that the investigators are also exploring the possibility of the victim being trailed by the assailants for the past few weeks to know about his daily movement.
Teams have been constituted to track down the assailants. The police are working on the theory of old enmity being the reason behind the murder. They are checking the mobile call details of the victim to figure out the sequence of events.
Purushottam Bal, DSP, Dera Bassi, said, “We are examining the CCTV footage, which shows images of a few motorbike riders. However, these are not clear,” he said. — OC
