The Jalandhar Commissionerate today said Dr Rajesh Aggarwal of National Kidney Hospital had not been given a clean chit in the kidney racket, as investigation was still going on. Earlier, there were speculations that the doctor would be given a clean chit. J Elanchezhian, ADCP, Investigation, who is heading the SIT, said, “No clean chit has been given to the doctor yet. We are building our case carefully.”

Dr Aggarwal, who was earlier given two days to file a written statement, had sought two more days to furnish complete records. The court today extended the remand of Junaid and Harminder by three days. The other three have been sent to jail.

So far, 24 persons have been nominated in the case. Those arrested are Junaid, Kuldeep, Saboor, Vardaan and Harminder Lal, helper, Sunder Lab (owned by Deepa Aggarwal, Dr Rajesh’s wife). “Receptionist-cum-coordinator of the hospital Neena Rani, alias Sadhna, has emerged as a key accused in the racket. She used to clear the fake IDs of donors and recipients by charging Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh. Her arrest will help us in solving the case faster,” said the ADCP. He further said that a coordinator must possess a graduation degree as per the Human Organ Transplantation Act. He said if Sadhna was found not possessing the degree, they would take action against the negligent authorities.
